No one likes to do household chores, but dishwashers have become a wonderful modern convenience. However, when it’s not working properly or causing leaks, it can make household chores that much more cumbersome. If your dishwasher is on the fritz and you’ve got a leak problem, the following could be why:

Corroded Tub

If your dishwasher has gotten a lot of use over the years, it’s possible a leak may have developed through wear and tear of the tub. Dishwashing detergents can cause corrosion on the bottom of the tub, thus letting water seep through and pool underneath the dishwasher. If your tub has seen better days, you may want to consider replacing your dishwasher.

Loose Valves

Valves and hoses that come loose inside your dishwasher could easily cause a leak problem. Typically these are quick fixes. Check that your drain hose connection is secured. If you notice cracked hoses, they can easily be replaced. If the leaks continue after replacing loose valves and hoses, then you may have a bigger plumbing problem on your hands.

If your dishwasher isn’t level, it could cause water to gather and pool underneath. Use a level tool to see if your dishwasher may be improperly aligned. If it is, you can find shims at your local hardware store that can be used to place underneath to put your dishwasher in alignment.

Overloading your dishwasher may not leave your dishes as clean as you like, plus it may not drain properly. Lighten up on the dish load and if that doesn’t stop the leaking it may be time to call a plumber.

If you still have leaking problems even after trying the above-suggested fixes, it’s possible that you may have a more complicated plumbing issue. For all your plumbing needs, call or schedule an appointment online with AAA Service today.
